TRIP DESTINATION CARLSBAD CAVERNS
Introduction to speleology (the study of caves), spelunking (cave exploration), Chiropteran ecology and the unique natural history of the Chihuahuan Desert within the Guadalupe Mountains of far west Texas. Learn about the factors that promoted cave formation and take the opportunity to find fossils while we hike through a unique desert ecosystem. This trip is not recommended for those who are claustrophobic or uncomfortable in the dark. Camping takes place in the backcountry with daily trips to and from the camp site. Note that the wind speeds in the Guadalupe Mountains can be quite high - we might even fly a kite!
